Necromancer Academy's Summoning Genius Chapter 47 At the entrance of the abandoned castle, a dozen or so people were hanging like cocoons, caught in spiderwebs, seemingly on the verge of being devoured by spiders. It appeared these were the people who had gone missing from the territory. A corpse was also visible on the ground, the very same shriveled corpse found at the scene. Indeed, it seemed certain that Erzsébet was behind the disappearances. “People! It’s people!” Then, one of the villagers spotted Simon. “S-save us! Please untie us!!” “The spider monsters are trying to eat us!” A clamor erupted. Simon nodded calmly, then pulled out a sword from his subspace and cut the spiderwebs. “Pier, please help too.” [Hmph, useless things.] Pier clicked his tongue and swung his greatsword, causing five people hanging in the spiderwebs to fall down with thuds. Cries of pain echoed from various places as they fell upside down. Simon gave a wry smile and said, “Pier, gently.” [I don’t want to waste my time on such pathetic creatures!] Even so, Pier swung his greatsword once more, dropping more people to the ground. Simon cut the spiderweb binding one person with his shortsword, then handed the sword to him. “Please use this to free the rest. We will go and catch those spider monsters.” “Th-thank you!” “We won’t forget this kindness!” While they were freeing each other from the spiderwebs, Simon and Pier continued their steps into the abandoned castle. [Boy! For a Necromancer, aren’t you too merciful to prisoners?] Simon tilted his head and asked, “Then what should a Necromancer do?” [Naturally, you should kill them on sight! And then raise them as skeletons to use as combat power!] “……At Kizen, killing people for the purpose of making them undead is forbidden, you know.” [This is the field, and there won’t be any witnesses, so what does it matter! You’re not the type to be bound by such notions, are you?] Simon scratched the side of his head and gave a wry smile. “Actually, my father always told me something until it was ingrained in my ears.” [What is it?] “Don’t become a monster.” At those words, Pier flinched and fell silent. “And to not become a monster, he said it’s very important to set boundaries.” Pier’s lips curled into a terrifying smile. [That’s advice only Richard could give.] “Huh?” [Kuhuhuhu! It’s nothing! If that is your will, then as the Legion’s administrator, I will gladly respect it!] The two passed through the corridor and entered a spacious area of the old castle. The windows were shattered, letting moonlight stream in, and the space was filled with dust and spiderwebs. And. “……” In the distance, Erzsébet was seen sitting on a large chair, drinking tea. [Kuhuhu! Have you given up on escaping?] Pier said, raising his sword. She took a light sip of tea and smiled with her eyes. [How could I, Pier? Since you’ve already detected my Jet Black, you’d chase me to the ends of the continent no matter where I ran, wouldn’t you?] [You know me well!] [Then I merely thought I should deal with you here.] She snapped her fingers. Spiders poured in from the ceiling and through the broken windows. Simon and Pier quickly stood back to back. [And since you released my toys, it seems I’ll need new ones.] She flicked her tongue, looking at Simon. [I think it would be enjoyable entertainment to toy with that Kizen boy you cherish so much, right before your eyes. Don’t you agree?] Just as Pier frowned and was about to speak, Simon extended his arm to stop him. “It’s fine, Pier.” [Boy!] “I’m a Legion Commander, aren’t I? From now on, I’ll speak directly.” Simon stepped forward boldly. The spiders made clicking sounds, ready to pounce at any moment, but Simon ignored them and spoke. “Former Captain of the Legion, Erzsébet.” [……?] She looked at Simon with curious eyes. “I formally propose. Please join my Legion.” [Ha.] She let out a scoff. [Didn’t you hear what I was just saying with Pier? I have no intention whatsoever of rejoining a Legion that once abandoned me. Furthermore,] Her index finger pointed directly at Simon. [To go under a Necromancer like you, who has no foundation whatsoever, chosen merely as Pier’s nostalgic whim? I dislike vulgar jokes.] Kuk! Hahahahahahaha! Suddenly, Pier’s booming laughter erupted from behind. Erzsébet’s expression twisted terribly. [What’s so funny, Pier?] [Hehehehehe! You think I chose this boy because he resembles Richard? How absurd! You know nothing about this fellow!] A question mark appeared on her face. “There’s no need to hide it anymore.” Simon continued, placing a hand on his chest. “I am Simon Pollentia, the son born between Richard Pollentia and Anna Pollentia.” [……!!] Her expression distorted into something indescribably severe. [Richard and Anna’s……!] Her enemy who abandoned her. And the woman she hated more than anyone else in this world. The child born between those two. The trace of their union. “I’ll say it again, Erzsébet.” Simon spoke in a cold tone, like pouring water into boiling oil. “You belonged to my father.” [……Stop it.] “Therefore, it is only right that I, his son and a Legion Commander, take you in.” [STOOOOP ITTTT!] Something she had carefully buried deep within her heart. Something she had not recalled, thinking she had ‘forgotten’ it. That festering, rotting emotion burst forth and dominated her mind. [AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!] Erzsébet writhed in agony. Her fingernails raked and tore at her neck and shoulders, drawing blood. Her body expanded with loud thuds! Six massive legs burst from her thighs and sides, planting themselves on the ground. The mask covering her face vanished, revealing a woman with monster-like eyes. Her upper body was human, her lower body a spider. This was Erzsébet’s true form as an Undead. [Die! Just dieeeeeee!] Erzsébet, consumed by madness, lunged straight at Simon. If she didn’t erase this terrible trace immediately, she felt she would truly go insane. Her Jet Black-tipped claws elongated, aiming for Simon’s neck. And Simon merely stood in place, expressionless. [Well done, boy!] *Flap!* Suddenly, Pier’s back and cloak obscured Simon’s vision. Beyond the cloak, a loud, raw severing sound echoed. As the cloak lowered, Pier, who had swung his greatsword, and Erzsébet, who was plummeting to the ground with four of her legs severed, became visible. ‘Chance!’ This time, Simon moved. He gripped a spear that had sprung from his subspace. ‘Jet Black Enhancement.’ The spearhead turned black with Jet Black. Pier grinned and stepped aside, and Simon darted forward like lightning, thrusting his spear. *Thwack!* Simon’s spearhead pierced into Erzsébet’s body. But it didn’t fully penetrate. Erzsébet grabbed the spearhead with her right arm, resisting. Simon gritted his teeth, stomped roughly on Erzsébet’s face, and put more force into the spear. “This is your last chance.” Simon said in a chilling voice. “Will you join the Legion, or will you perish here and now?” [Hmph!] She extended her remaining legs like awls. Pier quickly jumped in front of Simon. *Slaaash!* [Ugh!] The plate armor Pier was wearing was torn like paper, showing how powerful the attack was. Simon gritted his teeth and put more force into the spearhead. As the human and two undead were locked in a fierce struggle, Corpse Spiders approached to save their master. And right above them. *Whoosh!* A white aura of light appeared. Pier saw it and shouted, [Damn it! Get back!] Soon, the aura of light expanded at tremendous speed and descended to the ground. Dazzling light scattered, tearing apart everything around it. *Rumble rumble rumble!* [Tsk!] Pier, who had retreated from the explosion’s radius, knelt on one knee and set Simon down. The spiders caught in the explosion vanished without a trace. Erzsébet, despite having half her legs severed, somehow managed to evade it, leaning against the wall, gasping for breath. “Too bad~ It was perfect timing!” Everyone’s gaze turned. Beyond a collapsed wall, a girl holding a staff was visible. [A mere Priest!] Erzsébet roughly extended her hand. The spiders on the ceiling immediately rushed towards her. “Oh well, can’t be helped~” She lightly swung her staff, and spears of light flew out, embedding themselves in the spiders’ bodies. The spiders writhed in pain, letting out screams. ‘She’s strong, as expected.’ Simon’s expression hardened. “Ancient evil spirits, disgusting spider swarms, I will annihilate all of you right here!” She pulled out a jewel-like object from her pocket, tossed it above her head, and tapped it with her staff as it descended. The jewel shattered, and a massive surge of Holy Power erupted as if exploding. “Goodbye!” *Whoooooosh!* The expanding white aura of light soon transformed into countless spears of light, scattering in all directions. Simon and Pier quickly hid behind a pillar to avoid them. Heavy spears of light indiscriminately plunged into the ground, and Corpse Spiders died, spraying blood. ‘……This is difficult.’ Simon bit his lip tightly. Erzsébet had to be captured alive, not killed. Dealing with her alone was tricky enough, but spiders kept swarming, and now an Efnel student was here too. [Boy! At this rate, we have to strike the Priest first!] “Can we win?” [Hmph, Holy Power is annoying, but a single blow is enough for that level!] Simon nodded. Erzsébet, with her mobility sealed by severed legs, was as good as caught. Pier moved stealthily behind the pillar. “Oh my!” At that moment, the Priest twirled her staff and smiled. Her gaze was directed towards Erzsébet. “It seems your legs are bothering you!” Spears of light were embedded in various parts of Erzsébet’s body, as if she couldn’t evade due to her injured legs. The Priest extended her staff forward, and a pure white magic circle unfolded, from which a spear made of Holy Power appeared. “Mission complete!” *Whoooooosh!* The Holy Spear flew at terrifying speed. As Erzsébet watched it blankly. *Thwack!* [Ah……?] Something that shouldn’t have happened, happened. Simon had blocked her path with his arms outstretched. Erzsébet’s pupils trembled wildly. “Kuk……!” The Holy Spear had accurately pierced Simon’s back, protruding from his chest. There was no physical impact, but Holy Power was more lethal than extreme poison to Necromancers or Natural Undead with Cores in their bodies. [Wh-why are you?] Erzsébet’s face was still filled with shock. Simon collapsed to his knees. His vision spun wildly with excruciating pain. Slowly, his vision darkened, and Simon fell to the ground. * * * *Crackling, crackling.* Simon slowly opened his eyes to the sound of a campfire burning. ‘……?’ The atmosphere was so quiet it felt strange after the chaos. He moved his head and suddenly saw a Corpse Spider with multiple eyes right in front of his nose. Simon startled and sat up. -Kiri. Kiririri……! But the spider didn’t attack. Instead, it rubbed its face against Simon’s arm and then looked up at him intently, as if asking if he was okay. [Oh! Are you awake, boy?] Pier, who was sitting with his greatsword stuck in the ground, smiled. Simon got up with a blank look and surveyed his surroundings. Still inside the abandoned castle. The terrifying spiders were docilely scurrying around on the floor. Pier didn’t seem to be attacking the spiders either. And. ‘……Erzsébet.’ She had returned to her human form and immediately turned her head away as soon as their eyes met. Simon remembered her being quite severely injured, but fortunately, she seemed unharmed. “Cough! Cough!” Coughing sounds came from above. He looked up and saw the Priest, tightly bound in spiderwebs, hanging upside down from the ceiling. “Y-young Master!” Due to the campfire smoke rising from below, she was shedding tears and snot. “Please, save me! Ughhhhh! Cough! Cough!” Simon let out a hollow laugh. ……What on earth happened here?
